Temporary closure as Rec Centre prepares for summer season

Short break, fresh start: The Rec Centre's getting ready for summer

The Shire of Augusta Margaret River's much-loved Margaret River Recreation Centre will take a short break in early December for some important maintenance works ahead of the busy summer season.

The Centre will be temporarily closed from Friday 5 December to Sunday 7 December 2025, with limited access for selected aquatic and court-based group activities on the Monday 8 December and Tuesday 9 December. The Centre will reopen on Wednesday 10 December with full operations.

Shire Director of Sustainable Economy and Communities, Nick Byrne said the scheduled works were part of the Centre’s ongoing commitment to maintaining high-quality, safe and accessible facilities for the community.

“The Recreation Centre is one of our busiest community facilities, accommodating thousands of visitors each week,” Mr Byrne said.

“Our team works hard all year round to keep things running smoothly, and this short maintenance window is our chance to make sure everything is in good condition heading into summer.”

During the closure, the team and contractors will complete general maintenance, cleaning, repainting and minor facility improvements, along with some scheduled remediation works. The sauna will remain closed until Monday 15 December while resurfacing is completed.

All memberships will automatically be placed on hold during the closure, and programs such as swimming lessons and local sporting bookings have been scheduled around the maintenance period to minimise disruption.

Augusta Recreation Centre members can request membership continuation during this time.
