New Appointment Increases Shire Voice in Decision Making

Shire President Julia Meldrum has been appointed to the Board of the South West Development Commission (SWDC).

The SWDC is a statutory authority created by the State Government to identify and support projects that benefit the south-west.  As one of seven Board members, Julia will play a crucial role in shaping the overall direction and priorities for SWDC.

Julia said she was delighted be given the opportunity to further serve the local community through her role on the SWDC Board.

“I see the appointment as an extension of my role as Shire President delivering the best outcomes for our residents and environment, without compromising the region’s unique characteristics.

‘’It is a critical time for the South-West Region to plan for the future of a diverse, innovative and clean economy, to ensure liveability and community resilience into the future.’’

Julia’s appointment is until the 31st December 2025.

The appointment means the Shire of Augusta Margaret River will have a greater voice in the decision making about the south-west and will ensure the Shire’s broader values and goals are represented.
