Staff pitch in to plant over 500 native seedlings

Shire staff rolled up their sleeves in July for the fourth annual Staff Planting Day along the Wadandi Track in Margaret River

Led by the Environment and Landcare Team, staff planted, staked and protected more than 500 local native seedlings in the Wadandi Track reserve on Railway Terrace in Margaret River. The effort builds on three previous years of planting, bringing the total planted at the site to more than 1500 plants.

This area on the Wadandi Track was chosen because it forms part of a vegetated ecological corridor through the heart of Margaret River. Revegetating the site will help improve habitat and plant diversity, strengthen connections between areas of native vegetation, and support local fauna including quenda, western ringtail possums and black cockatoos.

The seedlings planted included a range of local species, propagated by and sourced from the Margaret River Community Nursery.
