CinefestOZ returns to Shire

Inspiring storytellers, filmmakers, and artists.

CinefestOZ Film Festival returns to the Southwest from 30 August to 7 September and the Shire of Augusta Margaret River is proud to play host and support this incredible celebration of film!

Regarded by film makers and audience lovers alike as Australia’s premier destination film festival – our very own equivalent to Cannes – CinefestOZ celebrates creativity and culture and plays a vital role in inspiring the next generation of storytellers, filmmakers, and artists.

Now in its 18th year, the festival showcases more than 90 fresh feature and short films from Australia, France, and New Zealand. Highlights include the prestigious CinefestOZ Film Prize – Australia’s richest award for excellence in filmmaking – alongside IndigifestOZ, the Cinesnaps Student Competition, the Short Film Awards, free community screenings, and special meet-the-filmmaker events at restaurants, wineries, bars, and breweries.

In Margaret River, Nala Bardip Mia – Margaret River HEART will host the FREE Deadly Day – shining a spotlight on First Nations filmmakers, artists, performers, and storytellers – as well as a feast of free feature, documentary and short films as part of the 2025 Free Screenings Program

Other festival highlights at the Margaret River HEART include:
•    Opening Night screening of Working Class Man (The Story of Jimmy Barnes), with a post-film Q&A,
•    Short Film Awards
•    WA-made documentary Lifeblood
•    Mulled Wine Monday—a cosy night of powerful short films by and about women.
