Shire supported events happening this month
August in Wadandi Booja marks the beginning of Djilba - a transitional time of year with some cold and clear days mixed with rainy, windy and occasional burst of sunshine. As the weather begins to warm up, the landscape comes alive with wildflowers including the yellow blossoms of the Yonga Marra (Kangaroo Paw).
August also sees the return of CinefestOZ – Australia's premier destination film festival, right here in the South West. Walk the red carpet alongside filmmakers at the Opening Night premiere of Jebediah: Are We There Yet?, catch one of more than 14 special screenings at Nala Bardip Mia – Margaret River HEART, enjoy the free community screening of Kangaroo, or experience Deadly Day – a series of free events celebrating the incredible talent of First Nations filmmakers, artists, performers and storytellers.
We're also shining a spotlight on our local everyday heroes at Volunteer Voices & Community Conversations. Join us for an evening of conversation, connection and shared learning as we celebrate those who make our Shire a better place to live, while hearing their stories. This is a free event, but registrations are essential.
There are also two remaining sessions in our End of Life Matters community information series, delivered in partnership with the Augusta Community Resource Centre, workshops hosted by our partners Mind-Ed, Margaret River Business Network and the Lower Blackwood LCDC, and plenty of regular favourites including Rec Connect and Toddler Tales at the Augusta Library.

Presented by Mind-Ed this workshop will empower you to support others in crisis.
20 August - Volunteer Voices & Community Conversations
A special panel session bringing together a diverse group of local volunteers to share their experiences and insights gained from giving back to the community.
