Are You Bushfire Ready?

The annual Firebreak Notice sets out the requirements for property preparedness to assist in the control of fires and reduce the risk of fire to the community.

The Firebreak Notice Requirements and Bushfire Information 2021-22 booklet includes additional information on the requirements of the Notice, important dates, Fire Control Officer details and Permits to Burn.

All required works must be completed on or before 30 November each year and maintained up to and including 12 May the following year.

If you have any concerns regarding how the requirements may impact you, believe you may need to apply for a Variation, or would like further information, please contact the Shire Rangers on 9780 5695, or email [email protected]

Appointments and Inspections

Owners and occupiers who believe that compliance with the Firebreak Notice may require the removal of habitat trees or have an effect on rare flora/fauna, should arrange an early inspection by appointment to discuss opportunities for Variations. Inspections by appointment may also be requested for reasons including biosecurity, locked gates and dangerous animals, or for explanation on the requirements of the Notice. To arrange an inspection contact Rangers as soon as possible and by no later than 1 November 2021.

Variations to the Firebreak Notice

Where compliance with requirements specified in the Notice is not practical due to environmental considerations and constraints, owners may apply for a Variation to the Firebreak Notice. The Shire encourages applications for Variations to the Firebreak Notice to be submitted prior to 1 November 2021 to ensure compliance activities are carried out by 1 December 2021. Any requests after 1 November 2021 will incur a fee of $150. All applications must be made by the property owner or person authorised to act upon the owners behalf. An application form is available here. For further information regarding Variations, please contact Shire Rangers on 9780 5695.

Burning of Garden Refuse

You may burn one small heap of up to one (1) cubic metre of garden refuse during the Spring/Summer Restricted Burning Period, from 9 November to 22 December, between the the hours of 6:00pm and 11:00pm, without a Permit.

A permit is required to burn garden refuse during the Autumn Restricted Burning Period from 15 March to 12 May.

Your green FOGO bin is emptied weekly and is a great way to regularly dispose of garden waste.

Campfires are NOT permitted at any time during the PROHIBITED Burning Period from 23 December to 14 March

Note: Restricted and Prohibited Burning Period dates are subject to change. Please check the Shire website to confirm dates prior to undertaking any burning.

During the Restricted Burning Periods (9 November to 22 December & 15 March to 12 May) please observe the following requirements in relation to campfires and the use of wood and solid fuel BBQs and wood fired pizza ovens.
