Showcasing our Shire Through Major Events

Boosting business and celebrating what makes our Shire

The Shire of Augusta Margaret River is inviting applications for its Major Events Grants Program to support events that showcase our region.

Part of a broader grant funding program that includes Community Partnerships and Community Development & Events Grants, the Major Events Grants Program provides funding for events of State or National significance that promote our region and attract visitors, boost the local economy, and create memorable experiences for both residents and visitors.

In addition to well-known events such as the Margaret River Ultra Marathon, Cape to Cape MTB, Cabin Fever, CinefestOz, and Margaret River Region Open Studios (MRROS), the program has also supported sporting events like the recent 2026 Toyota Australian Country Cricket Championships, where the Shire hosted Australia’s top country-based cricketers.

Shire President Julia Jean-Rice said supporting a diverse range of major events is important for both economic development and community wellbeing.

“Major events attract visitors to our region and boost local business, especially during quieter months, while also giving residents a chance to connect and celebrate what makes our Shire such a great place to live in and visit,” she said.

“These events showcase our vibrant arts and music scene, iconic adventure and outdoor sports locations, and our incredible natural environment, as well as our renowned food and wine, to visitors from across Australia and beyond.

“And they’re a win for our community – giving kids and community groups great opportunities, bringing our public spaces and town centres to life, and connecting people through fun, memorable, and meaningful experiences.”

The program is open to eligible businesses and incorporated not-for-profit organisations running an event within the Shire between 1 July 2026 and 30 June 2027.

Applicants can apply for up to $20,000 financial support, and/or up to $5,000 in in-kind support per year. Multi-year funding may also be available in some cases.  While some funds are already committed through existing multi-year agreements, President Jean-Rice encouraged applications from new partners who can deliver great events in the region.

“Our Grants Committee will assess applications against key criteria, including potential economic impact, ability to attract visitors, media coverage, community engagement, activation of public spaces, and environmental responsibility,” she said.

Community Development & Events Grants for 2026/27 will open in April.
